Abraham Lincoln: A Rare Large Half Plate “Ivorytype” Image, circa 1864, in Original Case. The familiar image was taken by Berger in Brady’s Washington gallery in February 1864. This present example is an actual photographic image, but printed on milk glass rather than paper or tin. The process, patented by photographer J. E. Mayall in 1855, never became commercially successful, and examples of any subject, let alone Lincoln, are scarce. A beautiful, impressive Lincoln display piece. Condition is beautiful, although the exterior of the embossed composition case has light wear, and the lid is clearly separated at the spine. Measures 9” x 6” when displayed open.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Smal (view shipping information)
