Abraham Lincoln Funeral CDV Philadelphia
Abraham Lincoln: An Arresting Funeral Image CDV from Philadelphia. His cortège with visible coffin is drawn by a team of horses draped in mourning. Lincoln's funeral train retraced, with minor changes, the 1,654 mile route that Lincoln traveled as president-elect, in 1861, from Springfield to Washington. It carried dignitaries and an Honor Guard, in all some 300 mourners in addition to the body of Lincoln's son Willie who had died in the White house in 1862. Huge throngs came to pay their respect at each stop. The present image is from Philadelphia where some 300,000 people came to view the casket at Independence Hall. The original of this carte de visite was issued by HENSZEY & Co., but this is an issue distributed by Jacob Shew, San Francisco. Choice condition, but for neat trimming of the right margin. Very strong image. Measures approximately 3.75" x 2.5".

Shipping: Small Flat (view shipping information)
