Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 17 x 11, July 11, 1864. President Lincoln appoints Richard R. Shekell as "a Justice of the Peace, in the County of Washington, in the District of Columbia, and to keep, and cause to be kept, all laws for the good of the peace, and for the preservation of the same, and for the quiet rule and government of the people." Boldly signed at the conclusion by President Abraham Lincoln and countersigned by Secretary of State William H. Seward. In very good condition, with split folds, tears, and paper loss repaired and reinforced on the reverse; Lincoln's signature is affected by a split, but is otherwise clear, clean, and bold. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
