"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Abraham Lincoln military appointment signed as President, dated 13 August 1861, from Washington. Countersigned by Lincoln's Secretary of War, Simon Cameron and by Adjutant General Lorenzo Thomas. Here, Lincoln appoints John Christopher, who was later recognized for his gallantry at the Battle of Chickamauga, to First Lieutenant. Document reads in part, ''Know Ye, That reposing special trust and confidence in the patriotism, valor, fidelity, and abilities of John Christopher I have nominated, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, do appoint him First Lieutenant in the Sixteenth Regiment of Infantry in the service of the United States: to rank as such from the Fourteenth day of May eighteen hundred and Sixty one.'' Document, measuring 14'' x 18'', has an elaborate military motif at the bottom and an eagle engraving on top, with a green military seal still intact. Document is matted beside a 10'' x 16'' print of a bust portrait of Lincoln by Jacques Reich, signed by the artist in dark pencil. Both the document and portrait are framed to overall size of 35'' x 28''. Horizontal crease just beneath Lincoln's signature, touching the lower edge of the ''A'' in ''Abraham''. A few words are affected by holes at the center of the document and there is also a separate small hole just beneath the ''L'' of ''Lincoln''. Overall in very good condition.
