Abraham Lincoln Carte de Vistie by Mathew Brady,
Abraham Lincoln Carte de Vistie by Mathew Brady, 2.5” x 4”, written on reverse “Mr. Brady, 127 East 29th Street”. This photographic portrait of the sixteenth president was taken by Anthony Berger, partner of Matthew Brady, at a special sitting at the Brady Gallery in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, February 9, 1864. The photograph of Lincoln is known as the “Five Dollar Bill” pose, because of its long use on that bill. Another photograph taken at that sitting was the basis for the likeness of Lincoln on the one cent coin. For some unknown reason, in sitting for the portraits taken that day, Lincoln parted his hair on his the right side, instead of the left side.
