Abraham Lincoln Brady Carte de Visite Photograph, 2.5" x 4". Not signed. Mathew Brady's "National Photographic Portrait Galleries" imprint on verso. A 2¢ George Washington U.S. Internal Revenue Proprietary stamp has been affixed above the imprint. On Tuesday, February 9, 1864, three days before his 55th birthday, President Lincoln posed for this photograph and six others at Mathew Brady's Washington Studio for perhaps the most elaborate sitting Lincoln had ever granted to Brady. This photograph was used for the penny. Other images taken that day were used for the $5 bill and numerous postage stamps. The famous photograph of Lincoln, wearing spectacles, looking at a book with his 10-year-old son Tad, was also taken that day. Foxing, soiling, and minor chipping do not materially detract from its appearance. Overall, in fine condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
