Abraham Lincoln Autograph Signature "Lincoln p.d.", at foot of an autograph document signed "Logan p.q." by Stephen T. Logan (Lincoln's second law partner, 1841-44). Sangamon Co. (Ill.), no date (docketed July 1840), three-quarters page, folio. An affidavit signed by William Camp, concerning the suit of Henry Mock vs Thomas Lasswell. Camp swears that in the summer of 1839 he bought "a sorrel claybank mule" from Lasswell which he had previously seen "at the stable kept by Mock…and Lasswell", paying $65 for the animal; Mock was not then present "but afterwards delivered the mule to him at the stable" upon being told Lasswell had sold it, although he had previously "claimed the mule as his property…" Logan and Lincoln have signed beneath an endorsement at the foot of the document in which they agree that this affidavit "is to be read as evidence on the trial of this cause as if Camp was sworn as witness, subject to exceptions as to relevancy only." Boldly written, with nice looking signatures. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
