Abraham Lincoln Autograph Endorsement Signed "A. Lincoln", two pages, 7.75" x 6.75", Washington D.C., February 1, 1865 and endorsed by Lincoln the following day. On this endorsement the President instructs Secretary of War Stanton to modify New York's Military Draft Quota in response to a petition by New York senators. New York Senators James A. Bell and George H. Andrews wrote Lincoln asking him to overrule Stanton and "defer for future investigation" part of the Jan. 24, 1865 increase in the state's draft quota. Lincoln instructs Stanton to accede to the request unless Stanton saw "some inseparable objection not occurring to me". Listed in Basler, Vol. III, p. 257. At the time of publication it was owned by R.E. Bardick of New York. Very fine condition; slight separation along original fold lines and two small tape reinforcements on edges, also slightly trimmed.
