Abraham Lincoln: An Ambrotype-like Image on Glass. The image is one of Lincoln's most famous, used by Victor D. Brenner as the model for his immortal Lincoln penny design. Anthony Berger at Brady's Gallery in Washington took the photograph on February 9, 1864, one of seven different poses shot that day. It is a reverse image (on the original, Lincoln faced right) on the underside of the glass. It is impossible to date this example with complete precision. However, it is our impression that it is not contemporary of Lincoln, but perhaps made a few decades later. It is certainly not modern, and a very attractive item for display. Presently housed in an earlier leatherette case, showing typical surface wear and with lid separated along the hinge. 2.5" x 3.5".

Shipping: Small Collectibles (view shipping information)
