Abraham Lincoln: A Most Unusual Oversized 14½" Woven Memorial Ribbon. These beautiful woven ribbons appeared around the middle of the 19th century in England and somewhat later began to be manufactured by several American companies. Their intricate, tightly woven designs were made possible by a newly developed, mechanized weaving process, which allowed them to be mass-produced and marketed. There were a number of Lincoln varieties made on both sides of the Atlantic. At least two were produced during Lincoln's presidency, but most were of a memorial nature. They were manufactured from shortly after Lincoln's assassination in 1865 through the remainder of the 19th century in a variety of styles. All of these varieties however were much smaller than the present example, ranging in size from perhaps 6" to 10". The ribbon is beautifully framed and still attached to the original manufacturers paper backing which attests to its manufacture at the 1893 Columbian exposition. We have never encountered this dramatic, oversized variety before. Excellent condition. Dimensions: 14.5" x 2.5", ribbon only. Nicely framed by its previous owner for display.

Shipping: Framed - with Glass, Large (view shipping information)
