Letter to Dr. Joseph Lowell, surgeon general of the Army. In part: “Presuming that the new Secretary of the Navy is by this time warm in his chair, I must again trouble you on the subject of my application for a Midshipmen appointment for my son Alexander. Will you do me the favour to wait on Mr. Woodburt & renew the application made to his predecessor by calling to his notice…an endorsement by the President on a letter addressed to him by Gen’l Fenwick.” In fine condition, with unobtrusive intersecting folds and a crossed out notation to the left border.
