Texas rancher and cattleman (1834-1900). His nickname ‘Shanghai’ referred to Pierce's tall thin stance resembling a Shanghai rooster. Uncommon ALS signed “A. H. Pierce,” one page, lightly-lined, 5.75 x 8.5, Office of A. H. Pierce, Stock-Raiser and Cattle Dealer letterhead, May 1, 1893. Letter to an associate. In full: “I fear Ford is settled a little in the Horton case as you are older I wish you would take a man down this week & consult with him fully & give him your Ideas.” Matted, with a printed portrait and biography, to an overall size of 19 x 12.25. Intersecting folds, slight show-through from notation on reverse at top, and some mild toning, otherwise fine condition. This is the first time we have ever offered this legendary Texas figure.
