ALS signed “N. G. Dufief,” one page, 7.75 x 11.75, December 1, 1803. Handwritten letter to "Aaron Burr, Vice President of the United States," in part: "I requested a Gentleman of Georgetown the favor of having a copy of the prospectus of the work I propose publishing, handed to you on a mark of my respectful homage. As circumstances might have prevented him from fulfilling my wishes, I take the liberty of thus forwarding to you two copies of the same." Addressed on the reverse in another hand to "Aaron Burr, Vice-President of the United States, City of Washington," and boldly docketed in Burr's hand: "N. G. Dufief, 1 Dec. 1803, enclos'g Prospectus of a new work on Language." In very good to fine condition, with some scattered staining and an area of loss from seal removal.

Nicolas Gouïn Dufief (c. 1776–1834) was a French language teacher who taught in England and America, publishing works on the philosophy of language, manners of teaching language, and a French-English dictionary.
