c1890-This is a small crock jug used possibly as a promotional item for the Fashion Saloon in Jerome, Arizona. The saloon was owned by John Keller, formerly Johannes Keller, a German immigrant. Keller was involved in the saloon and hotel business in Prescott.
The Fashion Saloon was Jerome’s largest and most elegant saloon. It first opened in the 1880s and was rebuilt several times over the years because of fire. The saloon is now one of Jerome’s oldest buildings, having survived the town’s last big fire, supposedly started when a lover’s quarrel resulted in a thrown lamp, devastating the business district in 1899.
In 1903, the business expanded into the adjacent building and featured 11 games of chance tables.
Today, the building houses the Jerome Mining Museum.
The jug measures about 5”x 3”, is rough around the base and slightly stained. HKA#64231
