Cal. 11x58R. S# 870. Bbl. 33 1/4". This well-worn rifle was mfg. in Austria & the buttplate is marked for the 84th Regiment. A consignor supplied tag states that this rifle was brought back from Afghanistan & has seen numerous modifications as well as bearing the marks of extensive service & numerous repairs. Ladder rear sight graduated to 1,400 meters. Stud type brass front sight. Receiver is marked on top w/ "WERNDL". Barrel is marked on top over chamber "St.70". Bayonet lug on right side of bbl. Rotating breech block. Side hammer w/ back action lock. Walnut stock. Forend retained by two bands & has added reinforcement behind the lower band. Ramrod channel has been repaired by silver colored alloy tubing. Forend is equipped w/ metal & leather ring, possibly for a camel saddle. Incorrect replacement ramrod. Stock has many brass & silver colored embellishments on both sides of butt, some of which have been removed. CONDITION: stock has extensive wear & handling marks w/ numerous large repaired cracks on both sides in the action area. Ramrod channel is worn & chipped. Buttstock has notably worn finish w/ loss of wood in inletted areas. Worn metal has turned overall gray & patina w/ areas of oxidation & numerous handling marks. Hammer nose has been repaired by welding. Notches & lock tumbler do not hold reliably. Rear sight slide is copper replacement. Bore has oxidized lightly pitted appearance throughout w/ worn lands.
