AUDIE MURPHY`S GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL
AUDIE L. MURPHY (1924 - 1971) Most decorated U.S. combat soldier of World War II. Among his 33 awards and decorations was the Medal of Honor, also received every decoration for valor that his country had to offer, some of them more than once, including five decorations from France and Belgium. Credited with killing over 240 of the enemy while wounding and capturing many others. An excellent Murphy relic, his World War II Good Conduct medal, about 1 1/2" wide and 3" tall, gold in color with an eagle motif with the legend "EFFICIENCY HONOR FIDELITY", on the reverse is a star with laurel leaves and the legend "FOR GOOD CONDUCT". The ribbon is red and white with a pin back. The medal was donated by Murphy to a Navy charity auction, and is sold with a copy of the original auction card reading: NAVY RELIEF FUND AUCTION Item: Medals Lot Number: 246 Donated By: Audie Murphy Lt. USA" and boldly signed by Murphy at bottom. These auctions, held for the benefit of Navy veterans, were first held in 1944. Fine condition.
