AUDIE L. MURPHY (1924 - 1971) Most decorated U.S. combat soldier of World War II. Among his 33 awards and decorations was the Medal of Honor, also received every decoration for valor that his country had to offer, some of them more than once, including five decorations from France and Belgium. Credited with killing over 240 of the enemy while wounding and capturing many others. A superb Murphy relic, his World War II Combat Infantryman's Badge, 3"" x 1"" bearing a laurel wreath surrounding a silver rifle on an enameled blue background. This medal, given to combat infantrymen, was donated by Murphy to a Navy charity auction, and is sold with a copy of the original auction card reading: ""NAVY RELIEF FUND AUCTION Item: Medals Lot Number: 246 Donated By: Audie Murphy Lt. USA"", signed by Murphy at bottom. These auctions, organized for the benefit of Navy veterans, were first held in 1944. First Lieutenant was the highest rank Murphy attained. Fine condition.
