KENTUCKY RIFLE BY D. R. DAVISON. Cal. 32. NSN. Bbl. 40" oct. bbl. w/ semi buckhorn rear sight & German silver blade front. Scroll engraving flanks both front & rear sights. Rear portion of bbl. is engraved “D. R. DAVISON”. Flat plate modern percussion lock is also scroll engraved. Trigger plate is fitted w/ dbl. set triggers. Stock is of very finely fiddle figured maple. Furniture & embellishment are of German silver which exhibits a high level of craftsmanship in its execution. Heavy crescent buttplate is offset by fancy engraved patchbox on left side of butt. Cover is released by pin at top of buttplate. Right side of butt has inlet scrolls at rear, eagle above dbl. grooved cheek rest & pricker in housing under cheek rest. Hearts are inlet at grip. Heavy cast trigger guard has scroll finial. Sideplate is nicely shaped & raised above surface of wood. There are more inlet scrolls in front of lock. Stock is pinned to bbl. through dbl. ended acorn escutcheons at front & middle. Geometrically shaped escutcheons at rear. There are intermediate tear shaped scrolls inlet between pins. Brown fiberglass ramrod w/ brass tip is held by 2 oct. pipes w/ rnd. ends & matching thimble. CONDITION: all furniture is attractively engraved w/ geometric & floral motifs & scroll. Very fine overall. Bbl. & lock retaining nearly all of their original brown finish w/ some high edge wear on bbl. & silvering on thumb piece of hammer. Stock retains nearly all of its original smooth oil finish. German silver slightly toned w/ some staining at top of buttplate & on trigger guard bow. Bore appears good but needs cleaning. Lock is good, set triggers work. (01-18787/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
