A pair of A.Ls.S. of painters, the first SIR WILLIAM BEECHEY (1753-1839), English portrait painter of the royal family. A.L.S. 1p. 4to., "George Street", Dec. 10, 1801, to a gentleman, in part: "...I have the pleasure to inform you that you have His Majesty's permission to place His Portrait, and Her Majesty's, also as Frontispieces to your Shakespeare in the manner you wish...". Tipped to a larger sheet, very good. Along with ROBERT RICHARD SCANLAN (1802-1876) Irish painter of portraits, known for his images of prominent figures such as Sir Robert Peel and the Duke of Wellington. A.L. 4pp. 8vo., Bristol, Sept. 5, [n.y.], in part: "...I have been for the past week at Badminton where I had an interview on Thursday last with his Grace the Duke...", and more. Crosswritten and a bit tough to read but bearing, a charming original sketch of a woman. Part of the letter excised with considerable loss of text, including the signature, otherwise good. Two pieces.
