<p><b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:windowtext'>ARTHUR RACKHAM </span></b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial; color:windowtext'>(1867-1939). One of the foremost English illustrators of children’s books and watercolor painter. His work appeared in periodicals and in new editions of literary classics such as <i>Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens</i> (1906) and <i>Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland</i> (1907) originally published by Lewis Carroll. His ethereal style was often tinged with the slightly sinister. Original ink drawing for <i>Aesop’s Fables</i> penned on art paper, 8¼"x10½". Signed beneath image, “<i>A Rackham.</i>” An illustration for the fable, “The Lion, the Fox, and the Ass,” first published in <i>Aesop’s Fables</i> [London, Heinemann, 1912, p. 196]. This drawing of the Lion, the Fox and the bones of the Ass is more vivid than the printed version which was reduced about 1½ times. Occasional light foxing in margins away from image; o/w in very good condition.</span></p>
