<B>ARTFULLY DESIGNED CIRCULAR FOSSIL TABLETOP</B></I><BR> <I>Various species of Cephalopodia</B></I><BR><I>Devonian<BR>Sahara Desert, near Talmud, Morocco</B></I><BR>This large and dramatic table top has been fashioned from the abundant fossil marble deposits of the northern Sahara desert. The surround is composed of familiar black orthoceras marble, studded with the white and grey remains of these striking cone-shaped fossils, and acts as the ground for a large central eight-pointed star. Classically outlined with brass banding, this section is laid with the striking Saharan reddish brown fossil marble, containing innumerable ammonite and further orthoceras remains. The centerpiece, however, is a 10 inch diameter ammonite fossil, sliced and polished to reveal the wavy lines of its internal structure, in a pleasing mirroring of the shell's spiraling outline. The different sections of the central fossil alternate between black and grey-white with a deeper, earthier reddish-brown color, harmonizing perfectly with the two marbles used for this tabletop.
