Egyptian Revival jewelry and movies like the "The Thief of Baghdad" inspired some unusual and beautiful whimsical jewelry, Korda manufactured custom jewelry ( via a called Rice-Weiner ) for some of his films. It was produced during World War II, and there were several types of rationing done in World War II, and one was on rhinestones. Previously, rhinestone jewelry had a lot of stones. During the Art Deco, they were paved with rhinestones. But you'll notice this jewelry and this piece in particular has very few stones, because we were at war. Some of the pieces during this movement reflect the fantasy theme of the movie and the opening of King Tuts tomb. At that time many companies rushed to create and copy the ornamental jewelry worn by the cast in the movie. Arabian fantasy was a most popular theme as you can see but this huge brooch . This one appears to have been inspired by the popular 'Thief of Baghdad' movie and exotic Arabian craze the followed it. It is really large ( 3? x 2 ¼?) and as lotus flowers and nouveau drops. The stones are a flat back cabs of turquoise colored glass. The brooch is in great shape and is one like no other I have ever seen.
