Medusa was originally a beautiful nymph, "the jealous aspiration of many suitors," but when she was taken by Poseidon in Athena's temple, the goddess transformed her beautiful hair to serpents and she made her face so terrible to behold that the mere sight of it would turn a man to stone.

This antique frame has been made so the brass Medusa heads show up on the outside of the glass in a second frame. The top and bottom have a glass Egyptian head that is set in filigree brass.

The edges are gorgeous with etched flowers. The back is velvet and has a silk old ribbon that keeps the hinge open so it stands.

Inside is a photo with an inscription of the adorable little boy in the old photo. This is 11 ½ x 8 ½" and has its original glass and old velvet matting ( needs changing).

The neatest thing about this is can have a whole photo that shows to the edge or a matting will fill the double frame on the edges in the front.

This is marked sterling ( see close-up) but it looks brass to me. Sold as is. Frame is good and velvet needs a little brushing.
