ARCHER, JAMES J.
(1817 - 1864) Confederate brigadier general and colonel of the 5th Texas in Hood's Brigade,, fought at Antietam, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg where he was captured. Scarce manuscript D.S. "J. G. Archer " as Captain of the 9th Infy., 1p. oblong folio, Washington Territory, September 30, 1859, an "Abstract of Provision issued... to 'Citizens' employed in the Quarters Department, in the Field, with Escort to N[orth]W[est]. B[oundary] Commission", including pork, beans, rice, beef, and so on. Ironically the list was compiled by future Union General Charles G. Harker (not signed or in his hand) (1837 - 1864), Union brigadier general killed in action while leading a charge at Kennesaw Mountain. An ironic association: both were killed during the Civil War, and both were on opposing sides in the conflict! Usual folds, very light toning at top otherwise very good to fine condition.
