In what became typical of his early body of work, he displays a skillfulness in combining peaceful farm animals with a figure in a landscape or rural scene as depicted in the present composition.

In 1858 Mauve traveled to Oosterbeek where he flourished under the influence of his two friends Gerard Bilders and Willem Maris. He was one of the foremost painters of the Hague School, and from 1881 to 1882 he worked closely with his cousin Vincent van Gogh. Mauve's solid reputation as a realist painter is a testament to the many collections and museums in which his works are housed today.

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)

Important notic
