A large gathering of historical printed and manuscript ephemera exploring the struggles of Central and Eastern European Jews from the 18th century through the Holocaust and beyond. Includes many scarce items. Comprises: 1.) Early 18th century anti-Semitic German printed broadsides and an official proclamation. 2.) 1897 pamphlet issued by the Zionist Congress at Basel, Switzerland. 3.) Printed Zionist Congress circular letter, in Hebrew, signed in-the-plate Dr. Marcus Ehrenpreis and Dr. Theodor Herzl. 4.) Group of 1920s and 30s Palestinian Hebrew language newspapers. 5.) 1929 folio-size Hebrew language Zionist broadside. 6.) Vintage Haggadah with paper wrappers. 7.) Partly-printed 1943 arrest record from the Wilna ghetto concerning man named Abram Rubin. 8.) Buchenwald concentration camp: metal tag, triangular red patch with embroidered letter P, yellow painted wood Star of David button, and an embroidered Buchenwald uniform shoulder patch. 9.) 1943 typewritten German legal notice for a woman divorcing her Jewish husband in Berlin. Bears Reich rubberstamps and official signatures. 10.) Three printed 1928 Upper Bavaria election ballots with votes cast of Adolf Hitler. 20.) Pass issued a Jewish Nazi collaborator for movement in and out of the Theresienstadt ghetto. 28.) Passports: Hungary (1941), Mandatory British Palestine (1929), Poland valid for travel to Palestine (1934), Russia (1904), and Great Britain issued to Mr. Theodor Herzel Reitman bearing both Government of Palestine, and later Israeli rubberstamps (1944). 36.) Maritius detention camp: war date postal covers, I.D. cards, a visitation pass, Zionist World Organization substitute shekel notes, and other ephemera. 37.) Post-war Displaced Persons certificates, visas, index cards, registration cards, and others. 38.) Three postal covers from Camp Lechi addressed to C.I.D. Headquarters in Jerusalem. 39.) Loose-leaf binder containing post-war documents relating to a Jewish partisan who had fought against the Germans in Yugoslavia. 40.) Post-war German and Austrian Provisional Identification documents for former concentration camp prisoners (dates May, 1945 through September 1948). 41.) 1948 Lubaszow, Poland Department of Health document allowing Edmund Katz to arrange for the exhuming of a mass grave containing 6,500 Jews murdered by the Germans and to have their remains reinterned at the local Jewish cemetery. 42.) 1948 typewritten letter, in Hebrew, signed by David Ben-Gurion. 43.) 1943 Jewish Palestine Regiment Soldiers Service Book. 44.) 1946 Government of Palestine Identity Card. 45.) 1947 Etzel broadsides for Displaced Persons in camps throughout Europe. 46.) 1947 & 1948 printed handbills and circular letters issued by Etzel. 47.) Womans Exodus 1947 certificate (illegal immigration identification) with stapled photo portrait. 51.) Autograph letter signed by David Ben-Gurion, dated March 6, 1955. Addressed to Levi Eshkol, Ben-Gurion asks about the esek bish concerning Lavon. 52.) Five British George VI General Service Medals (3 retaining Palestine 1945-48 ribbon bars). All numbered on edge and some named. One issued to a member of The Arab Legion. 53.) Group of over 20 vintage Israeli military pins issued to various branches of service. Includes a few Arab examples. 54.) 1961 Israeli Knesset admission ticket to the trial of Adolph Eichmann in Jerusalem. 55.) Group of Soviet and German commemorative pins issued to recognize various WWII anniversaries including military victories and concentration camp liberations. Condition varies widely, this lot should be personally inspected prior to bidding. A fascinating and compelling group of documents.
