Here is a beautiful stylish sterling silver jewelry box in the Art Deco style, highlighted by a spectacular engine turned guilloche enamel lid in a gorgeous shade of deep pink. The box rests upon 4 small raised step feet and has plain unadorned silver surfaces on all four sides. It needs no additional ornamentation as it has been topped with a truly magnificent lid in a vibrantly-saturated shade of deep pink enamel. The glorious color coupled with the intricacy of the engine-turning makes a vivid and striking contrast set against the sleek elegance of the surrounding silver. The center of the lid consists of a tiny miniature circle which radiates outwards in a sunburst design containing a series of increasingly larger concentric circles until it forms a huge circular shape surrounded by a narrow floral border. This has been beautifully showcased by having been set against a background of similarly radiating ray forms which visually frame and enhance the central motif. This has all been crafted with great skill so that an almost 3-dimensional affect has been created. The hinged lid opens by means of an elegantly curving handle discreetly applied to the front of the box and reveals a warm pink velveteen lining. Both the lid and the box have a set of English hallmarks which show that it was made in Birmingham in 1919. This is a really special item and would make a wonderful gift. It measures 7" X approx. 5 3/4" X approx. 1 3/4" tall.
