Used to measure alcohol content - either by wine makers, or more likely, to check that the servants were not syphoning off the alcohol and watering it down. Cased tools, including sized brass disks, thermometer and brass measure, as well as glass cylinder.<BR>Beautifully dovetailed fitted box measures 8 3/4 inches long.Lined with felt. Thermometer in early celluloid, resembling ivory. All other parts of beautiful old brass except the glass cylinder. Box has inlaid panel that reads Extended Sikes's Hydrometer with light "A & B" scale. C.
