ANTI-SEMITIC PUBLICATIONS
ANTI-SEMITIC PUBLICATIONS
Group of two German anti-Semitic items, includes: "Juden Und Lords Hand in Hand", Feb. 1940, 48pp. 8vo., which purports to demonstrate the connection between British colonialism and imperialism and Jewish finance. The publication is replete with stories of harsh British rule in India, the Sudan, and her other colonies, and includes illustrations satirizing Britain as a bully, physically oppressing her colonial subjects and squeezing profits out of them. It also includes an anti-Semitic caricature of Secretary of State for War Leslie Hore-Belisha, who was often the target of anti-Semitic attacks due to his Jewish background. The cover features an illustration of John Bull towering over a globe, reaching out to grasp more colonial acquisitions, accompanied by a line from German poet Friedrich von Schiller: "Seine Hande streckt der Brite gierig wie Polypenarme aus" ("The Briton, his arms outstretched like those of a greedy polyp"). The cover is mostly detached from the spine, small tears at the bottom of the first three pages, else very good. WITH: "Der Oldenberger Residenz-Bote ", a German satirical magazine, featuring a caricature of a Jewish newspaper editor spewing a large volume of ink over a bystander, with the title: "Noch immer Krieg! Trommelfeuer, nur mit anderen Mittelen." ("Still war! Bombardment, but by other means"), an illusion to the widespread belief that Jews were fomenting war for profit. Punch holes at the left margin, else very good.
