ANTHONY WALTON WHITE: (1750 - 1803) American major and aide-de-camp to George Washington in 1775....
ANTHONY WALTON WHITE: (1750 - 1803) American major and aide-de-camp to George Washington in 1775. Served under Anthony Wayne in the Georgia Campaign of 1782, and, in 1793, was appointed by Washington as Gen. Of Cavalry in an expedition against the Western insurgents. Lengthy A.L.S. 3pp. folio, New Brunswick, July 31, 1797, to David Ford, making the introduction of a Mr. Book. In part: "...Permit me to ask your aid in the business he is on, it being nothing less than to obtain from General Doughty vouchers which is in his power to give that will vindicate my impeach'd honor...". Apparently, a Mr. Kitchel had published articles charging White with making untruths, and had brought Doughty as a witness to support his charges. White goes on to further defend his reputation: "...My reputation is dear to me...I have and I trust ever shall hold it sacred, it cannot and must not, be sported with by any man...". Very good. $200-300
