ANDREWS ( Miles Peter ). Dissipation. A comedy in five acts ; as it is performed at the Theatre-Royal, in Drury-Lane. The second edition. Dublin : Printed by H. Chamberlaine, for the Company of Booksellers, 1781FIRST IRISH EDITION, pages vi (i.e. viii), (4), 59, (1, blank), complete thus, 12mo, recent paper wrapper : with some light old staining, but a very good copy. Despite the title-page statement, the only Dublin printing. Andrews was less successful with his plays than with his prologues and epilogues, which, although laden with slang and with gross caricatures of the foibles of the day, were so skilfully delivered by the popular comedians William Thomas Lewis and Isabella Mattocks as to command great applause. R. B. Sheridan said of him that he only succeeded in the head and tail of a play and always broke down in the body. G. Colman the younger described him as ‘one of the most persevering poetical pests’, and his plays as ‘like his mills at Dartford, particularly hazardous affairs and in great danger of going off with a sudden and violent explosion' (ODNB).ALSO WITH THIS LOT: (1) CUMBERLAND ( Richard ).
