ANDREW JACKSON NOTIONS BOX. This cardboard box has a hand-colored engraving of "Andrew Jackson" under glass on the lid. The portrait of Jackson is based on Ralph E.W. Earl's painting of "Andrew Jackson at the Hermitage 1830" which was published as a print in 1832 by Bufford and Pendleton of Boston. The box is 4 x 4.5 x 1.5", covered in green paper, the liner has a blue on white geometric design. This item is typical of boxes produced in the period and most certainly dates from 1832. Minor damp stains on bottom, light wear to edge of lid. Colors still bright. Similar example with engraving not colored priced at $3500 by a prominent New England dealer. A lovely display piece for a tough candidate! PLEASE NOTE: THIS LOT WILL BE SOLD ON EBAY LIVE AUCTIONS BETWEEN 1:00-2:00pm EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME ON MAY 10, 2002.
