ANDREW JACKSON HANDBILL. A wonderful Jackson handbill from 1832. "Jackson Voters BEWARE. Spurious Tickets are in circulation headed 'Jackson Republican Ticket,' and containing the names of the entire CLAY Electoral and congressional nominations. 'Honesty The Best Policy.'" 6 x 10", some professional restoration to the left portion, affecting one letter of text. A historically important piece. We have seen other ephemera relating to fraudulent ballots from the elections of 1860 and 1876, but nothing this early; this appears to be the origin of the idea of circulating fraudulent ballots. Jackson was victimized by Henry Clay in the "Corrupt Bargain" election of 1824; the two locked horns again in 1832, and it appears that the Jackson camp was ready for a repeat performance by Clay operatives.
