ANDREW JACKSON DS, as President, 1p, Mar 7, 1834, oblong folio, appointment of John McNiel as "Surveyor for the District of Boston and Inspector of the Revenue." Also signed by future Chief Justice of U.S. Supreme Court Roger B Taney (1777-1864), as Sec of Treasury. John McNiel (1784-1850), was a respected soldier and friend of Andrew Jackson. He was a hero in the War of 1812, leading a bayonet charge; achieved the rank of Brevet Brigadier General. Light soiling to document, o/w VG. Nicely double matted with: engravings; original 1914 $10.00 silver certificate and 1993 $20.00 bill, both bearing Jackson's image; metal eagle; medallion; and plaques for both men.
