Kertész clearly appreciated the irony of a clochard passing a billboard that featured the word "sécurité." Such interplay of word and image is uncommon in Kertész's work. A print of this image was included in his first solo show at the Au Sacre du Printemps gallery, which was a significant boost to his reputation in Parisian artistic circles.
