ANDERSONVILLE PRISON GUARD SIGNED DOCUMENT
An early war-date Confederate document, "A Requisition for Rations for the Brass Band of the 4th Regiment Geo. Volunteers for Eleven (11) men…", 1p. 8vo., June 23, 1861, a list of various quantities of official foodstuffs, signed by "W[illiam] W. Ford Presd. Brass Band". Paper thinned at upper-left showing brown paper backing on verso, else very good. Ford, a resident of Sumter County, Georgia, enlisted in May 1861 in the 4th Georgia Vols. and served until he was discharged for disability in 1862. Later he served in the 2nd Georgia Battalion Reserve Infantry and became a guard at the now infamous Confederate prison camp located in his home county, Andersonville. War-date documents signed by known Andersonville prison guards are a true rarity in today's marketplace.

Estimate: $200 - 300.
