(American, 1808-1869). Painted circa 1835; unsigned, on what appear to be the original stretchers. Verso with fragments of a 19th century newspaper from Goshen, New York. Probably purchased directly from the artist. The painting hung in the consignor`s family homestead in Orange County until 2005, when they moved to New Orleans. It endured the wrath of Hurricane Katrina relatively unscathed, but was then brought back north.
