AN IMPORTANT CHIPPENDALE WALNUT CHEST-ON-CHEST; Philadelphia, in three parts, with a removable cornice, above five short and three long drawers, the lower section with three long drawers on tall ogee bracket feet, the whole flanked by chamfered corners with lamb's tongue moldings and stop-fluting. Appears to retain its original hardware, warm brown color, old and possibly original surface, minor losses, 6'9"h x 44"w x 23 1/2"d. Provenance: Formerly in the Collection of the historically significant Belcher-Ogden Mansion, Elizabeth, New Jersey. Due to the Generosity of Governor Belcher, the house is often referred to as "the cradle of Princeton University". Other occupants of this 17th century house include Revolutionary War leaders, another New Jersey Governor and a participant in a landmark United States Supreme Court decision.
