The horn grip with mounts of elegantly engraved and nielloed silver en suite with those of the leather-covered wooden scabbard, the locket struck with an Imperial Russian silver purity mark. The heirloom Persian blade with central ridge wrought of finely-grained wootz damascus steel and signed WORK OF GHAZI MUHAMMAD and dated 1231 (1815/16 c.e.) with a poem in Persian which appears to read, THE HEART LONGS FROM YOUR ABSENCE/ THE NIGHT BECOMES A DELIGHT. Latter 19th century. Silver pommel plate replaced in period, scabbard leather modern. Overall length 49.8 cm.
