AN EXTREMELY RARE PIQUE INLAYED PICTORIAL BUTTON
1 Large medium 18th C. Tortoise & gold inlay button with a verbal. Here is a very rare and beautiful button from the 18th century. The rich color of the tortoise is accented beautifully by the genuine gold pique inlay work depicting a detailed building and surrounded with a motto that says "BONNE A TOUTS UENTS: translated from French says " GOOD FOR ALL WINDS" or as the late Jeff Lee of Ohio was told " A FAIR WIND FROM ALL DIRECTIONS". The back is almost as beautiful as the front and is inlayed with an engraved pearl heart that the shank goes through and is framed in Gold pique of dots and further enhanced with an outer border of Gold inlay pique dots.. A remarkable button that has stayed the course and remained in excellent condition for probably over 250 years. This is one of the rarest 18th century buttons a collector might find.
