1003. AMERICAN WAR HEROES A fine grouping of five vintage I.S.P.'s, all 8" x 10" b/w format with one exception (noted), depicting American military heroes from the First and Second World Wars, each in uniform and boldly inscribed to Gen. Milton Boone. Includes: JAMES G. HARBORD (7" x 9" b/w), W. BEDELL SMITH, LUCIUS D. CLAY, CLARENCE R. HEUBNER, and HANFORD MACNIDER. MacNider's photo bears a slight tear at bottom, not affecting autograph, otherwise very good. Along with a fine vintage unsigned photograph 8" x 10" b/w showing Admiral William F. Halsey in uniform standing with Vice Admiral Vain of the Royal Navy, and Admiral Joey Boone. With a lengthy docket at bottom margin which continues up right side: "Vice Admiral Vain R.N. Commander British Air Force...Third Class Joel Boone Commander (M.C.)...Fleet Medical Office Third Fleet Admiral W. F. Halsey Commander Third Fleet directing the fighting off Northern Japan 1945". Apparently this photo was the last to show the three men together. Finally, the lot includes an unusual oversize vintage photograph 10" x 13" sepia, apparently entitled "Watch on the Rhine", and showing an American WWI soldier leaning on his bayoneted rifle while looking over the river. Framed in a period gilt frame. Very good, unexamined out of frame. $200-300
