AMERICAN STAR, DAILY AMERICAN STAR & THE NORTH AMERICAN - 57 ISSUES. PRINTED IN MEXICO: 1847. First Edition. Elephant Folio - over 15" - 23" tall. Ex-Library. Good to Very Good condition. Extremely important NEWSPAPER printed in Mexico during the time of the occupation of Mexico by the United States Army, their goal being to convince residents of the need to accept the U.S. terms for peace. The North American went so far as to pursue a propaganda campaign favoring annexation of all of Mexico by the United States. The American Star & The Daily American Star were published by Peoples & Barnard. The Northern American was edited by W.C. Tobey. Text is in English and Spanish with each issue being 4 pages (2 leaves) in a 4 column format. All dated 1847. At the back of the book are numerous Lithographs and Chromolithographs bound in. The only library markings are on the top of the first issue - in pencil. The binding is 3/4 leather and marbled paper, with backstrip lacking, covers detached, with covers showing wear/tear. The first several issue are disbound.
