Lot # 53 AMERICAN SCHOOL (19th century) PORTRAIT OF GENERAL JAMES MCLELLAN OF BATH, MAINE Oil on canvas laid down on masonite 1/2 portrait of man shows man dressed in black coat and white shirt with brown hair and blue eyes. General McLellan was the first major ship builder in Bath, Maine. His business was located near the present day site of the former Bath Railroad Station. He was born May 7, 1777 and died in 1854. 51 Known ships were included in the McLellan fleet. Certain facial features are similar in style to paintings done by William Matthew Prior. Provenance: Descended directly via the family and consigned by the Great Great Great Grandson. Reference: Copies of biographical information are included with this lot. SIZE: 27-1/2" x 23".
