AMBROTYPE OF MUSTACHIOED SOUTHRON (LOUISIANA?) A crystal clear early sixth-plate ambrotype of a reso
AMBROTYPE OF MUSTACHIOED SOUTHRON (LOUISIANA?) A crystal clear early sixth-plate ambrotype of a resolute Southerner wearing tinted military shirt and high-crowned kepi with the brass initials "LVR" inside two embroidered circles. The image is probably a Virginian with the "LVR" signifying his association with the "Lynchburg (Volunteer) Rifles (Co. E, 11th Va.) or "Louisa (Volunteer) Rifles" (Co. A., 23rd Va.). The unknown artist has masterfully captured this fellow's demeanor and elevated the stature beyond a common portrait. There is slight loss to the black backing of the plate and minor scuffing caused by mat abrasion, else EXC.
