AMBERG MODEL 71 MAUSER BOLT ACTION RIFLE.

Cal. 11X60R. S# 3823. Bbl. 32 3/4". Barleycorn front sight w/ folding leaf military rear sight. Single shot action w/ safety on cocking piece. Left side of frame is marked "J.G. / M/71". Right side of rear ring is marked "87" followed by "1883" date. Breech end of bbl. & front ring of receiver have numerous proof marks. Bolt body, cocking piece, 2nd bbl. band, receiver & bbl. have matching numbers. 3 Band fastened walnut stock w/ steel military buttplate & brass trigger guard. Forward band has bayonet lug on right side. Slotted tip iron ramrod. Buttplate peak has unit markings "B/2.A.E. / 6.86". Wrist of stock is stamped "E/22". Right side of stock above trigger is stamped "M". Right side of butt is stamped w/ a sideways "4 / 23"& carved marking "T" is found in left side of stock. Right side of stock has initials "SD" formed w/ series of punch marks & dotted lines. The Model 1871 was a great success & all states of the new German Empire as well as many foreign countries adopted it. The rugged & reliable rifle served soldiers as late as WWI. CONDITION: metal has cleaned gray appearance showing scattered light pitting & handling marks. Wood has age darkened worn appearance w/ numerous scratches, marks, dents & gouges. Bore retains strong, lightly worn rifling. (01-20697/DS). ANTIQUE. $600-1,000.
