GRADE HIGH POWER BOLT ACTION RIFLE ENGRAVED BY BAERTEN AND DEWIL WITH SCOPE. Cal. 308. S# 1X6826. Bbl. 22" lightweight, marked w/ all correct factory information & "MADE IN BELGIUM". There are triangles of semi relief open shaded acanthus scroll at breech end. Sm. ring Mauser action is coin finished & engraved w/ more scrolling acanthus as counterpoint to game animals appropriate to this caliber. Receiver ring has running antelope on left side & mule deer on right. Both of these scenes are signed "J. Baerten". Bottom metal has mountain lion perched on branch engraved on hinged floorplate, signed "R. Dewil". A mountain goat's head is on trigger guard bow. Pistol grip stock of nicely figured & marbled Claro walnut measures 13 5/8" over horn Browning buttplate. Stock features right hand Monte Carlo cheekpiece & rosewood grip cap & forend tip w/ contrasting white wood spacers. Bottom of grip has inlet gold diamond. Closely spaced checkering at grip & forend is of fancy pattern & flanked by carved semi relief acanthus scroll in stippled background. Rifle is mounted w/ 2X-7X Redfield wide field scope w/ duplex reticle in Redfield rings & 1 piece base. Rings have light scroll engraving. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: instruction book. CONDITION: extremely fine, very close to as new w/ only a few widely scattered handling & assembly marks in wood. Varnish finish is especially fine w/out any checking, only some fading from light, mostly on bottom & grip cap. There is some light shrinkage checking in horn of buttplate. Scope is excellent. Optically clear. Rifle appears unfired. Sharp shiny bore. A superb Browning in a relatively scarce caliber. (20-439/MGM41). CURIO. $6,000-7,500.
