ALMOHAD: Anonymous, silver square dirham (1.54g), Balansiya (Valencia) mint, AH 558-668. Obverse "la ilaha illallah, al-amru kulluhu lillah, la quwwata illa billah, balansiya" ("there is no god except Allah, all matter belongs to Allah, there is no power except by Allah, Balansiya"), reverse "Allahu rabbuna, Muhammadun rasuluna, Al-Mahdiyyu imamuna" ("Allah is our lord, Muhammad is our messenger, Al-Mahdi is our imam"). A-497. Fine to very fine. Very rare.
A very desirable Spanish mint for the square dirham series. Last specimen in auction records sold in Soler y Llach (Floor) Auction 1106 (lot 118) for around $382.
