ALEXANDRITE IN MATRIX
Emerald Mines, Malashevskoye Deposit, Malyshevo, Ekaterinburg,
Sverdlovskaya Oblast, Urals Region, Russia.
Occasionally found associated with emerald crystals at this locality are the often rumored, seldom seen variety of chrysoberyl named for Alexander II: Tsar of All The Russias. This cyclicly twinned crystal exhibits the fine Green to Purple color change that this gem mineral is noted for. It is perched upon a mica schist matrix very consistent with other material from this locality. The alexandrite crystal measures 1 ¼ inches across and the specimen measures 1 3/8 inches across overall.
