The senior Dumas,père, (1802-1870) is best remembered for his historical novels <i>The Three Musketeers</i> and <i>The Count of Monte-Cristo</i>. His son, fils, (1824-1895) was largely noted for his morality plays. His novel <i>Camille</i> was immortalized by Verdi in his opera <i>La Traviata</i>. Two ALsS by the famed pair, in French, 12mo, n.p., [1884]. Untranslated. The two letters appear to be referring to a duel. The senior novelist writes to a friend inquiring if there is anything he can do for him and asks if he would like for him to be his second. Dumas’ son writes that while he doesn’t participate in such matters, he does not mind that his father offers his services. Both are individually penned and signed by the father and son. A paper clip stain appears at top margin of the son’s letter; o/w VG. Accompanied by albumen portrait of the younger Dumas, 4"x5", mounted.
