<hr align=left size=5 width=33% color=#778899>(1812-1883). Vice President of the CSA; elected to US Senate in 1866 but was refused his seat; governor of Georgia (1882). ALS, 4pp, 12mo, Crawfordville, GA, Feb 7, 1867. To J. Barnet Cohan at Charleston, Stephens writes in answer to Cohan’s query regarding not having received a response to his earlier letter, that the mails had been very erratic over the last six months. He thanks Cohan for an article he had enclosed commending Mr. Cleveland’s bank, “<i>as it will doubtless be very gratifying to him</i>” and would give it to him. As to Cohen’s question on Stephen’s observations on the future, he replies, “<i>I can only say to me all is dark. The prospect as far as I can discern is as gloomy and clueless as it has been for the last seven years—not a ray of genuine light from which a well grounded hope can spring do I not see!...I am hard at work on a History of the causes, conduct & results of the late war. It will not be ready for the press before the close of the year</i>...” Boldly penned and signed. Two 1½" and single 2½" fold separations with no paper loss; minor ink bleed and soiling; o/w VG.

11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The
winning bid will always be one bidding increment
over the second highest bid. The minimum
acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,
whichever is higher.

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject
to increased charges. All items are shipped
immediately upon receipt of payment.

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
must be returned with two letters denying it’s
authenticity by expert authenticators acceptable
